Since my release from prison in July 1999, I have spoken extensively around the world about my experiences before, during and after the collapse of Barings Bank. Being a highly sought-after speaker on the international speaking circuit is not an accolade that I would have ever expected to achieve after serving a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence in Singapore but I have been very fortunate.

In the last twenty-one years, I have spoken numerous times on every continent and to a huge number of audiences in different countries. Over the years I have become an accomplished speaker – again something that I wouldn’t have expected and very thankfully can’t think of an event that hasn’t been well received. My name is used to attract an audience or liven up a difficult subject matter.

I have shared the stage with some very famous, inspirational and notable people. Mikhail Gorbachev, probably the most notable; he was breaking up countries whilst I was breaking banks! Drinking vodka in Harewood House with Mikhail and his wife Raisa is something that I won’t forget.

I don’t think this is the last hurrah but COVID-19 has posed serious issues over travel and events for the foreseeable future. I’m definitely not getting any younger though so I have decided to run a number of online events, a two-and-a-half-hour case study of the collapse of Barings Bank, from the Rogue Trader that caused it.

Initially, there will be three events at the end of September at different times of the day to cater for all geographical locations:

• Thursday 24th September at 09:00 BST

• Thursday 24th September at 22:00 BST

• Friday 25th September at 14:00 BST

This is ideal for anybody who works in risk management, compliance, governance or audit roles in your organisation. It will sharpen the mind and ensure that your systems, controls, policies and people are switched on in these testing times.

Regardless of the size of your organisation or location, there is something for you. We can also develop a bespoke event that allows you to deliver your own message to your organisation. Rest assured, my experience is that ‘real’ stories put bums on seats and will pique interest.

There will be plenty of time to ask questions and places for each session will be limited to allow more interaction. For further information and pricing, please email chris.banks@nmp.co.uk.
